Immediate Dentures: A Seamless Transition to Your New Smile

Never experience a day without your smile. We craft custom transitional dentures before your extractions so you leave the dental office with a full set of teeth on the very same day.
Immediate Denture

Never Experience a Toothless Day During Your Transition

Losing your remaining natural teeth is a significant life event, but it does not mean you have to hide your smile or pause your life while you heal. Immediate dentures also known as transitional dentures are a specialized prosthetic solution placed in your mouth the exact moment your natural teeth are extracted.

At Mountview Denture Clinic, we work closely with your general dentist or oral surgeon to take precise measurements and select your new tooth shade before your surgery. This coordinated approach ensures you walk out of the clinic with immediate aesthetic support and facial structure preservation. Beyond just aesthetics, immediate dentures act as a protective bandage over your extraction sites, helping to reduce bleeding, protect sensitive tissues, and allow you to maintain your daily routine with confidence.

Mountview Denture Clinic was proudly recognized with Dr. Marketing’s Best Dentist Award 2025 – Denture Category, an award that highlights clinics demonstrating exceptional patient care, advanced prosthetic solutions, and outstanding treatment outcomes.

This recognition reflects our commitment to creating natural-looking, comfortable complete dentures tailored to each patient’s needs. Our team continues to focus on modern fabrication techniques, precision craftsmanship, and compassionate care to help patients smile, speak, and eat with confidence again.

Understanding Your Transitional Denture Options

The immediate denture process is a two-phase journey: the initial placement and the final stabilization. We guide you through every step to ensure long-term comfort.

Immediate Complete Dentures

Designed for patients having their remaining full arch of teeth extracted. We map your current bite and facial structure beforehand to craft a complete set that preserves your natural appearance and allows you to speak and smile without interruption immediately following surgery.

Immediate Partial Dentures

If you are having multiple scattered teeth extracted but keeping others, an immediate partial denture fills the new gaps instantly. This prevents your remaining healthy teeth from shifting into the empty spaces while your gums heal from the extractions.

The Essential Tissue Reline

As your extraction sites heal over the first 3 to 6 months, your gums and jawbone will naturally shrink and reshape. This is a normal part of healing, but it will cause your immediate dentures to feel loose. To solve this, we perform a “tissue reline,” adding new acrylic to the base of your denture to perfectly match your newly healed gums, ensuring a permanent, secure fit.

Your Journey to a New Smile: The Immediate Denture Process

Getting immediate dentures requires careful timing and collaboration. We guide you through every clinical step to ensure a smooth surgery day and a comfortable recovery.

Coordination with Your Dentist

We consult with you and your extracting dentist to review your treatment plan, surgical timeline, and oral health goals, ensuring everyone is aligned for your extraction day.

Pre-Surgical Impressions & Design

While your natural teeth are still in place, we take highly accurate impressions and bite records. Together, we select the exact shade, shape, and size of your new prosthetic teeth to match your desired aesthetic.

Extraction & Same-Day Placement

On the day of your surgery, your dentist removes the necessary teeth and immediately inserts your custom dentures. This protects the surgical sites, minimizes swelling, and ensures you never have to look in the mirror and see missing teeth.

Healing & The Crucial Reline

We monitor your healing progress over the following months. Once your gums have fully stabilized and shrunk (usually around the 6-month mark), we perform a professional reline to restore the perfect, snug fit of your dentures.

Frequently Asked Questions About Immediate Dentures

Initially, they will fit well, but as your extraction sites heal over the first 3 to 6 months, your gums and jawbone will naturally shrink. This is a normal biological process, but it will cause your dentures to feel loose. This is why a “tissue reline” is a mandatory final step in the immediate denture process. Once we reline the base to match your newly healed gums, the fit will be secure and permanent.
Yes, seamless collaboration is essential for immediate dentures. We work directly with the dental professional performing your extractions to coordinate surgical timelines, review X-rays, and ensure your custom prosthetics are fully fabricated and ready to be placed the moment your teeth are removed.
Your immediate dentures will act as a protective bandage over your surgical sites, which actually helps reduce bleeding and swelling. However, your mouth will be tender, and you will need time to adapt to the feel of the new prosthetic. We recommend sticking to a soft-food diet for the first few weeks and practicing speaking aloud. As your gums heal and we perform your final reline, your chewing power and speech will return to normal.
